Uninvited: Working Ontario Women News
Hosted by: Karman Wong
We’re not asking permission for a seat at the table. We’re pulling up our own chair, uninvited, to bring you news stories about the issues important to working Ontario women and their families.
We’ll shine a bright light on your success stories and struggles, and hold government accountable for their decisions in the process. It’s free to access, with no restrictions.
ONTARIO’S NURSING CRISIS
Karman speaks with Birgit Umaigba, an ICU/ER Registered Nurse in Ontario. Birgit is an agency nurse who works on the front-line for hospitals that are short staffed. She’s been sounding the alarm bells about the nursing shortage and she’s urging the provincial government to take immediate action to address this critical situation.
GIG WORKERS
Karman speaks with Angela Scott, a long-time bike courier fighting for rights and protections for this vulnerable and growing group of workers. Angela shines a light on the unfair pay and labour protections, as well as poor health and safety conditions of workers in the gig economy.
RENT CONTROL & AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Karman speaks with Alejandra Ruiz-Vargas. Alejandra is a passionate housing advocate with ACORN where she fights for affordable housing and tenant rights.
